Cinema 4D Basics Part 2 Navigation and More
the interface to learn how to navigate the 3D space, create objects, and apply materials.
1. Navigation
Mastering movement within the viewport is essential for 3D work. While there are icons available, using keyboard shortcuts is more efficient:
Panning: Hold the 1 key and the left mouse button to shift your view horizontally or vertically.
Zooming: Hold the 2 key and the left mouse button to move closer to details or zoom out for a full scene view.
Orbiting: Hold the 3 key and the left mouse button to rotate your perspective around a pivot point.
2. Creating Objects
To bring a new shape into your scene, click and hold the left mouse button on the Primitives tab. Simply select the object you want (like a cube or sphere) and release the button to place it.
3. Modifying Objects
Once an object is created, you can manipulate it using the transform tools:
Transform Tool: After selecting an object, use the control handles (arrows, circles, and squares) to move, scale, or rotate it.
Precision: For exact changes, you can enter specific numeric values directly into the Attribute Manager or Coordinate Manager.
Undo/Redo: Use the standard shortcuts (Ctrl+Z to undo and Ctrl+Y to redo) to manage your changes.
4. Materials and Textures
Materials define how your objects interact with light, including their color, transparency, and reflectivity:
Creating Materials: Double-click in the material panel to generate a new material.
Applying Materials: Simply drag and drop the material directly onto an object in the viewport or onto the object’s name in the Attribute Manager.
Textures: You can use images or patterns to add realism, and advanced users can utilize the node-based system for more complex looks.
